Downloading the same file, on the other hand, took a little over 30 seconds, which is the best we’ve seen using the same 350Mbps speed used elsewhere. We’ve seen as little as five minutes elsewhere. Multiple tests with a minimum 30Mbps upload speed resulted in the upload of our 1GB test file taking around 30 minutes.

Upload and download speeds using the desktop client were poor compared with other cloud drives. The apps are clean, tidy and modern-looking, and you won't have any problems finding your way around them (the guided tour that you get when you first open up the client apps certainly helps). The interface sported by the various Tresorit apps is certainly one of the strong points of the service. I suspected backup was an afterthought for Tresorit, but one mostly hears nothing but praise for the service and little said about its limitations and when it isn't the right thing. Inability to restore to a point-in-time snapshot is a serious omission for a backup system. I liked a lot of things I read about them but to justify the cost of Tresorit, I'd really need for it to count as one of my viable backups under pretty much every plausible data loss scenario. Either way, I'd lose the benefit of (near-)continuous backup, which is one of the major reasons I've considered trying something like Tresorit or SpiderOak instead of the nightly scheduled Duplicati backups to I use now.ĭamn. Yes, I could enable/disable sync as you described, but if I did it automatically, it could still result in a failure and if I did it manually, I'd need to do it. That means Tresorit would be a nightmare to use for recovery following a ransomware-type event. On the "Premium" account, for which version history is limited to ten, is there, or can I set, a minimum interval between versions, so a rapid-fire sequence of updates (e.g., by malware) won't crowd out all the useful history? Is it straightforward to restore a previous version of a file to a different location?įollowing something such as a ransomware attack, can I easily do a "point in time" restore of an entire folder or tresor? (Obviously, having to select a specific previous version for each of hundreds or thousands of files would be impractical.) If I have multiple computers and want to backup, say, the "Documents" folder on each - will Tresorit understand that they are different folders, they just have the same name (which I will not attempt to change)? Or will it try to sync the folders between all computers? The latter would rule out Tresorit as practical for backup.
There are a few considerations for backup, though, that I have not yet been able to resolve. I know it is primarily a sync service, but it seems to be promoted for backup as well.
